Robert Golden Armstrong was born April 7, 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama.
He has one of the most familiar faces in movies and on TV, though few people know his name.
He starred in over 80 movies and his TV-roles surpass this number.
Most often, he portrayed troubled or menacing types.
Originally he wanted to become a writer, but got frustrated and later enrolled at
the Actors Studio in 1952. His film debut was in "The Garden of Eden" (1954), thus beginning
a long and successful career on screen and TV.
